Born in the Tower of Joy, raised in the North, the swordswoman known as ๐๐๐๐ was brought up by two Westerosi nobles that hid not just their own identities but hers as well. It is said that the North is compromised of harsh, tough lands. The people there are even harsher and tougher and no matter what name she possesses, those are traits that Lyra holds near and dear to her heart. In the aftermath of Robertโs Rebellion where the stag would be king, Lyra grew up in the rigid North, adapting to it as well as ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ from it. Under the watchful eye of ๐ก๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ and ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, the girl was raised amongst the smallfolk, for the pair had long abandoned their nobility and their titles to ensure sheโd live in normalcy and humility. They posed as Northern peasants and owned an inn, but ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ forgot who they truly were. And in turn, they taught her who she was when it was clear the girl knew more than she let on.From a young age, Lyra ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฆ๐ญ. No more than five years old when it started, the gods would grant her visions: vivid detailings of events of the past and the present soared through her daymares and night visions. Faces often blurred and voices she did not know or recognise spoke to her in her sleep, offering truths and clarity of the happenings in the realm. Over time, she had learned to articulate these dreams to her parents, who made her ๐๐๐๐๐ never to tell another soul. She dreamt of fire ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ in many shapes and forms and of a frigid ๐ฐอ๐ขอ๐งอ๐ญอ๐อ๐ซอ* that would last an eternity. She dreamt of a ๐ค๐๐๐๐ with hair as dark as the night and ๐๐๐โ๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ that adorned her head, whispering sweet things to her and reassuring her of things Lyra did not know she would have to worry about. It was a truth Lyra acknowledged for some time that Rhys Mormont and Elaria Celtigar were ๐ง๐จ๐ญ her true parents but that they loved her nonetheless. As much as an unconventional family dynamic enabled them to feel that bond, that is. For the sake of selfโpreservation, she spoke like a Northerner, thought like one, lived like one. Despite the violet tinge in her eyes and ethereally pale skin inherited by her ๐ฝ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ father, you could have never met a girl that was more proud to be a daughter of the North. She helped around the inn and was taught to be a healer, one of the best that the villages and towns alongside the Weeping Water and Lonely Hills had to offer. Her services were always needed and she gave them most willingly across most of the Northern lands. From the hills to Deepwood Motte, much to Elariaโs worry and dismay when Lyra was away for too long with Rhys. The real challenges were the times that she left the North with Rhys, often to connect with people from different cultures and lands and discover the realm on her own time.In secret, the nobles taught Lyra everything they knew during her youth. Elaria taught Lyra everything she knew from the South and her noble House. Valyrian dialects were taught in secret, a skill Elaria harboured that she passed on to Lyra and to Rhys so they could communicate in the childโs mother tongue. She also taught Lyra the history of Westeros, the many houses that ruled each and every region, and the battles that forged and paved the way for their rule. From Aegonโs conquest to the rebellion that placed a Baratheon on the throne. Certain truths were omitted but Lyra knew better. Dreamt better. Even if Elaria never said it out loud, she knew. ๐ฟ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐๐๐ค๐๐ฆ๐ ๐๐๐๐ค.On the other hand, Rhys taught her the ๐ก๐ฉ๐ ๐ค๐๐ฆ ๐๐ ๐ก๐ฉ๐ ๐ ๐ค๐๐๐, how to hunt for game, and how to brandish not just steel but her own strength against her opponents. It wasnโt right for a woman, let alone a peasant girl, to know how to fight. But Lyra wasnโt just any ordinary woman of the smallfolk.Deep in her heart, Lyra knew that Rhys only passed down his wisdom and knowledge of combat from the fear that one day, he wouldnโt always be around to protect or shield her from those that may wish her harm. The day would be inevitable, and gods forbid the girl heโs cared for as his own didnโt know how to defend herself. He had even promised her, someday, the ๐อ๐งอ๐อ๐อ๐ฌอ๐ญอ๐ซอ๐อ๐ฅอ อ๐ฌอ๐ฐอ๐จอ๐ซอ๐ that her ๐งอ๐อ๐ฆอ๐อ๐ฌอ๐อ๐คอ๐อ* owned when the ๐ป๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ conquered Westeros, much to Lyraโs delight and Elariaโs dismay. The sword was an old thing, hidden in the cellar of the inn that only Lyra and parents had access to. Not even ๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐๐ซ๐ or ๐๐๐ฒ๐๐ซ๐, the most loyal stablehands under Rhys and friends sheโs come to know, were allowed in there. ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐๐ฅ was hard to come by, even to nobles in the South. Lyra didnโt need an explanation from her parents as to why they had it. One touch to the sword and the answer came to her the following night when she was but six and ten.๐๐๐ซ๐ค ๐ข๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ *, it called itself. And in a beat, it called out to her by the name her true mother had given her and a story that would never be told to the realm. When ๐๐๐๐๐๐ of ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ค, sister to ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ข๐๐๐๐, died shortly after giving birth, she named her infant daughter ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ฒ๐ *, a request she would not deny the father of her child. Twins were born from the union, a ๐๐จ๐ฒ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ข๐ซ๐ฅ *, the first and only time theyโd ever be together. The ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐๐๐จ๐ซ๐ง children of ๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ that should have never been born. Lyanna entrusted her brother with caring for the babes that would never know the true touch or faces of their mother or father.Ned Stark would have never surmised that Rhys Mormont would accompany him on that fateful day at the Tower of Joy. Out of seven Northmen that came faceโtoโface with the remaining kingsguard Prince Rhaegar had, only three of them survived, including Stark and Mormont. When they reached Lyanna too late, it was Rhys who agreed to harbour this secret with Ned. In an effort to preserve life in a needless, senseless war, the Mormont heir elected to step away with one of two babes. When Ned chose ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, Rhys chose Visenya.Accompanied by Elaria Celtigar, a former septa novice who served the dragon prince for his Northern bride and their unborn child, Rhys came to the agreement with Ned to falsify his own death and fled Dorne with the infant girl and the septa woman. Not without some valuable assets, however, such as a sword and two mysterious stone eggs that would never hatch, all of which were previously guarded by a young Elaria. Ned Stark, heavyโhearted, took the boy to Winterfell and presented him as his own son. And Visenya?๐ต๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ somewhere else where sheโd uncover the truth someday in a lowly cellar by the touch of an ancient sword and two dragon eggs hidden in the North. That truth died with Lyanna Strk and despite what her dreams told her, the girl denied it better than anyone. In her mind, this was the only life she cared for. A life where she truly was the daughter of two peasant innkeepers that roved through lands throughout the changing seasons. Home was the inn where she was raised in her infancy. The inn where she took her first steps, where Rhys trained her in swordplay, and where Elaria kept the stone eggs in the cellar where they always remained on their pedestal.Lyra ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐ with the smallfolk, welcoming them in with her parents and offering her healing to those who needed it, offering comfort and strength in a secluded place in the hills. People from all over the kingdoms often traveled there over time and sought respite and shelter. It was where they told Lyra tales of their journeys and happenings of the world. It was through these people that she found the inspiration to be like themโโ every person she passed had a life as vivid and complex as her own that were filled with unique experiences, thoughts, and emotions. To Lyra, the world could be humbling yet aweโinspiring, as intricate as fate could design it.But with the aspiration to live life as normally as she can, Lyra never escapes the dreams that come nearly each and every night. The visions that bring her chilling truths and a past she canโt always keep escaping from. A mother and a father she dreams about and a war that never ended. Not truly. The truth haunts Lyra even when she doesnโt want it to and the visions foretell a future that neither her nor the rest of her true family can hide from.

( * writerโs note: i am very well aware that the show canon and book canon are two very different things for the most part. i have finished watching both shows and all the novels. i have taken inspiration from these things as well as incorporate my own headcanons to make lyra a viable enough character. please be kind. )
To make Lyraโs story work, I have created a handful of characters that are essential to who she is ( an index will be provided on the bottom half of this page ) and are necessary in order for the backstory to make at least some sense. I understand that ASOIAF, at this rate, is a hopeless tangle of book canon, show canon, and conjecture. I am willing to have fun with it, however, because the story is beautifully told and created and I am in awe of the accounts in this verse that enjoy it just as much.I will also be providing some headcanons that I have devised for this account as well as some things that I am willing to be flexible with for those who do not follow the show canon as much. I want Lyra to be as versatile as I can make her given that I really enjoy interactions and plotting storylines with people.๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐: ฬโ Lyra was brought up in the Northโโ but lives a nomadic lifestyle in that part of Westeros and her travels as a healer have taken her to the South as well as the Free Cities in Essos. Given she was raised by two nobles in secret that were thought to be dead, she is well traveled and knows how to make means work. This enables her to be able to understand different cultures.: ฬโ Lyra is vaguely aware that she is the daughter of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark but her adoptive parents refuse to confirm this. As a writer, I will not force this relationship onto accounts who muse them or their families ( such as the Starks, Targaryens, etc. ). Additionally, I like to think that she doesnโt truly know who any of them are other than the superficial things sheโs been taught about them and whatever her dreams and visions provide her with. Lyra considers Rhys and Elaria to be her true parents because they are the ones that raised her and loved her in a world where her life was already forfeit. She doesnโt particularly care for the game of thrones and will do her best to avoid it if able to. Also, she hates Kingโs Landing for not just how dangerous it is but the way that the people there live.: ฬโ With that being said, it is in my headcanon that Ned Stark still honoured the vow that he would protect his dying sisterโs secret, just that an original character of mine ( Rhys ) joined the fray at Nedโs side and helped him keep this secret. For those who do not follow the show canon โฑ book theory that Jon Snow is a legitimate Targaryen, that is completely fine, I can see the vision but the execution wasnโt so great that it is really just hearsay at this point. For those that do, I really envision twins being born and Ned and Rhys agreeing to separate them in order to protect their identities. It would hurt Ned, yes, because that would technically be his NIECE and a piece of Lyanna, but he understands that Rhys is a rare sort of honourable man that would do good on his oath to care for the baby as his own. Ned Stark will have died never knowing Lyra.: ฬโ Lyra will always resent Rhaegar for abducting her mother when he already had a wife and two children. Sheโs happy and grateful to be raised by Rhys and Elaria, but given what she has learned through her dreams and visions, she feels that her birth was an unfortunate circumstances and gave way to a senseless war that turned the realm upside down. She tries not to resent Lyanna for it either, aware of how young she was when it all happened. These are feelings Lyra still has to learn how to cope with, especially as I begin to write her more often.: ฬโ Continuing on with the family โฑ sibling dynamic, I love the idea of Lyra being Jon Snowโs twin. While he is not my favourite character in the show series, admittedly, I find that I took inspiration from both versions in the books and shows in order to create Lyra. They are both so similar yet so different as well. While I will not force this dynamic on those that do not agree with this theory or follow it, two things will always be true for Lyra: ( 1. ) She has never met Jon before but knows of him through strange visions and dreams and ( 2. ) she felt him die at the Wall when his men betrayed him. As for Daenerys Targaryen, Lyra always, ALWAYS, dreams of the Mother of Dragons without really knowing who she is. This is a relationship I would genuinely love to explore because both Dany and Lyra have very different views on the world and what it means to connect to people. All in all, Lyra would love Danyโs beautiful heart and her ideals for the most part.: ฬโ Lyraโs true name is Visenya Targaryen on account of the theory that Rhaegar really believed in the prophecy that the Prince that Was Promised would be true for someone in his bloodline. While I do not think of Lyra was the true holder of that prophecy, I believe that it belongs to one if not multiple people. I just really like that naming her Visenya would complete at least three of Rhaegarโs children were named after all three of the Conquerors.: ฬโ Dark Sister and two dragon eggs are currently in Rhys and Elariaโs possession, the former having been passed down to Lyra when she reached a certain age. For this to work, I like to think that the last known wielder of Dark Sister, Brynden Rivers, left behind the sword at the Wall when he disappeared and with the assistance of Maester Aemon, secretly returned the sword to Kingโs Landing. Somewhere along the way, when it fell upon Rhaegarโs possession, he kept it in the hopes of giving it to one of his children. When Lyanna died, Elaria had taken it upon herself to take the sword and petrified dragon eggs from the Red Keep when she left with Rhys and one of the babes. It also just makes sense, in my head, to have her possess her namesakeโs sword. As for the two dragons eggs, I do not intend for them to hatch any time soon. There will be upcoming solos in regard to this, I have plans.: ฬโ Lyra dreams mostly of her family ( on both sides ) and usually will have visions during or before a major event. For example, Lyra definitely knew what happened in the Red Wedding because it involved Robb Stark and Catelyn Tully ( relatives on her motherโs side ) and dreamt of it, only telling Rhys and Elaria what occurred despite never having met them at that time or knowing them at all. Just that it happened and she dreamt of it, simple as that. She does not liberally tell people she has visions or dreams. Hence why she resents her true father in the first place because in her mind, what happened to her halfโsiblings and their mother during the Sacking of Kingโs Landing is an injustice that she can never forgive.: ฬโ Lyra is perfectly capable as a swordswoman as well as an archer. Rhys taught her how to fight and wield such weapons. I do not intend for her to be powerful. Like, there is no way that she is going to be more powerful than the Mountain, could you imagine. But she knows how to hold her own and will fight dirty if it absolutely comes down to it. She will do no harm to anyone who doesnโt deserve it and will be cutthroat about it when absolutely necessary. Sheโs compassionate, she learned how to be a healer given that the smallfolk donโt have access to maesters. She uses holistic and apothecary methods in order to hone her skills not just as a fighter but as a woman of the people.๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐อ๐Again, these are original characters that are essential to Lyraโs backstory and will occasionally make appearances storylines, banter, and in many solos as I move further along Lyraโs progress.. ยท โง Rhys Mormont: The eldest son of Jeor Mormont and older brother to Jorah Mormont. Young Lord Rhys fought in Robertโs Rebellion alongside Ned Stark when Northern arms were called and joined him to aid Robertโs cause in order to stop Aerys Targaryen IIโs reign but shared his sentiments about the sacking of Kingโs Landing. He joined Ned Stark on his journey to Dorne and survived the skirmish at the Tower of Joy alongside Stark and Howland Reed. It was there he discovered the existence of a dying Lyanna Starkโs charges, Visenya Targaryen and Aegon Targaryen. A pacifist caught in the midst of a war, Rhys was in agreement with Ned to guard the realmโs most precious secret and parted ways, faking his death whilst renaming and taking one of the babes with him. It was here he met Elaria, a former noblewoman turned septa, and took her alongside him to hide and raise the child with her in secret. A gifted swordsman, he had the makings of a great knight but it was his patience and honour that persuaded him to not follow this path. He poses as a Northern innkeeper amongst the smallfolk, aware of his sacrifice and what it entailed. He cares so deeply for Lyra and for Elaria, playing the dutiful part of father and husband that it never seemed like an act at all.. ยท โง Elaria Celtigar: Hailing from a wealthy noble house, Elaria was a niece to Lord Ardrian Celtigar who was in the beginnings of taking her vows as a septa. She resided in Kingโs Landing in the Red Keep at court before beginning her teachings and studies for faith. Alongside some nursemaids, the Lady Elaria was summoned, in secret, by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen during his conquest of Lyanna Stark. She resided in the Tower of Joy where Lyanna would take her last breaths, aiding the midwives and the other septas in the birth of her twin children. When Ned Stark and Rhys Mormont came to retrieve the babes, Rhys offered Elaria to come with him in order to avoid being persecuted by her family or the Lannisters who would find Elariaโs sudden reappearance curious. With the sword and dragon eggs in two, Elaria left with this Northman and broke her vows as a septa in order to be mother and caretaker for the infant they now took under their wings. She now poses as the wife of a Northern innkeeper amongst the smallfolk, helping Rhys run the place as well as cook for travelers who come by. She is easily Rhysโ closest and most loyal friend, despite their differences and upbringing. She loves Lyra like her own and taught her history, music, and the Valyrian language.. ยท โง Everard: A cook at the Weeping Water inn, he was first hired as a stable hand when Lyra was but one and ten. A kindhearted boy whose mother taught him to cook and bake, he grew up alongside Lyra and was even taught how to wield a sword by Rhys in his spare time. He has dark hair and blue eyes and a strong disposition that does not match the gentle way he speaks. Elaria sees much of herself in Everard and Lyra canโt imagine anyone else as her best friend and the person she confides in the most apart from her parents. He is unaware of Lyraโs true parentage but he is beginning to catch onto something the more that the realm begins to change with everyone fighting for power.. ยท โง Bayard: The current stable hand at the inn who is often always running behind Lyra and Everard to ensure they are never up to trouble. The oldest out of all of them, he hails from the streets of Flea Bottom before he sought passage on a Northern ship to shape his life into something better. A brilliant archer, he met Lyra and Everard on a hunt in the woods before she told Rhys about him. With the innkeepers, he found not just work and shelter but a home and friends he considers his family now. Heโs the most rational of the group and looks up to Rhys, preferring to think of himself as his rightโhand man.
